It's best to use the Kogan Internet Modem with Kogan nbn™. However, you are also able to use your own router or modem. If you prefer to do this, we recommend getting a qualified network specialist to set up your equipment.
Here's what you'll need to know to use your own modem or router with Kogan nbn™.
Network settings for your modem.
To access your network settings, you'll need to login to your router or modem's default gateway server. Please check your User Guide for details on how to access your network settings before you configure your modem.
Here's how your general network settings should be configured so your modem is compatible for the Kogan nbn™ service.
- Set the Network Connection Type to IPoE. For some modems or routers, this is referred to as either DHCP or Dynamic IP.
- If you are connecting to FTTN or FTTB, set the DSL Modulation type in your modem settings to VDSL2 or Auto-sync Up.
- Set the L2 Maximum Transfer Unit (MTU) size to 1500 Bytes. Don't set it any higher as this can affect the performance of your nbn™ service.
- Set the Upstream Maximum Bit Rate (MBR) to the uplink speed profile of the nbn™ service that you're subscribed to. For example, set the uplink MBR to 5 Mbps for an nbn™ 25/5 speed profile.
